I am a writer, editor, web consultant, and folklorist, living and working in Philadelphia, PA.
Originally from Los Angeles, I hold a B.A. in History from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.A. in Folklore from Indiana University, Bloomington. I have taught courses on folklore, literature, writing, and professional skills at the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia University. And I am currently part-time faculty at Temple University.
Since 2014, I have been owner of basilosaur.us Limited, a web design and development company that helps small businesses and creative professionals establish and / or retool their online presence. Basilosaur.us brings our clients custom designs using the latest standards like HTML5, and easy to use, open source back-end software like WordPress. We assess clients’ web presence and online needs. We add to that our expertise in communications research, semiotics, and narrative theory. And we design engaging experiences that tell users what our clients are about, and offer them a sense that they are more than just a blip in the analytics — that they are valued.
I am also the editor of the Institute for Civility in Government‘s online initiative, The Civility Blog. There, I collaborate with the Institute’s founders to develop and launch a blogging and social media strategy meant to engage their current membership in a new medium, and increase the visibility and reach of their message. I currently produce weekly content for The Civility Blog, as well as working with Institute staff and members to help make their voices heard.
I have a long track record as a freelance writer, producing web content for Elance.com and Constant-Content.com, and local-interest news stories for Examiner.com. I have built websites for small businesses including Diamond Building Maintenance in Melbourne, Australia and Field of Vision Coaching here in Philadelphia. I have worked in academia, with non-profit organizations, and in the private sector to design manageable and effective strategies for online outreach.
And I am available to work with you.
